Hi, I’m Moerieda and I love running, traveling and pushing my limits.
I’m married to my soulmate, Adam and blessed with 3 beautiful children. I work in Telecoms and holds a MSc (Eng) in Industrial Engineering…and a bit of a workaholic. I became addicted to ultra running whilst searching for that elusive “work-life” balance at the age of…wait…40! I have no sporting background and with zero athletic ability running is by far the most challenging thing I’ve taken on but it has put me on a path of self discovery and serious transformation both physically, mentally and spiritually…and I love it!
How it all started…
I don’t know what it was about 2010 (maybe the spirit of the 2010 Soccer World Cup being hosted in South Africa); however that was the year I decided to stop looking for that all elusive work-life balance and start living it! I haven’t quite figured out what it all means but that is all part of journey’ing through My Million Miles….
It all started with me trying to loose a few kilos. My husband started running and buying the Runner’s World magazine and me opting for gym and the Shape Magazine. But he was having so much fun, with races on the weekend I was jealous! I started reading “his” Runner’s World magazine and damn very interesting articles and stories how running has transformed peoples life. I could not wait for the next issues, read it front to back each time and soon we were fighting for the magazine. I am sure you can guess who won! Since then Adam just announce “I have something for you” not even trying to attempt to read it first :-). I never knew there was so much to running…always thought it was just about putting on running shoes and there you go!
So, in 2010 I lost 22kg just training on the elliptical trainer (40mins; everyday…for about 9months!) and watching my diet. Extremely “chuffed” with myself I was ready to push the boundaries so I signed up for the 2011 Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town.
I had no idea how or where to start training, just knew it would be best to follow some sort of training programme. In the excitement of training for the race I found myself jotting down all sorts of training tips to help me prepare for the race. I had so many scribbles all over the place I started to keep a journal and before I knew it, there I was….not just running, but BLOGGING ABOUT RUNNING!
Running the 2011 Two Oceans Half was a life changing experience. I kept thinking why did I not do this earlier. This is so much fun and the benefits (just looking and feeling great!) far outweighs the discipline and training effort you HAVE to put in. I was hooked! I just love that feeling that comes with pushing myself and running far.
The intention is to keep blogging about all my adventures. “A race time is just the final page of a book. It means very little without knowing the story leading up to it.” -Unknown. This blog is my platform for sharing my stories and experiences whilst chasing my dreams…
I dream of doing crazy stuff that makes me happy. I dream of becoming a multi-sport athlete in the not-so-far future. Yes, an ATHLETE! I want to travel the globe with my family and Drive, Bike, Run, Walk, Swim and Fly in all sorts of exotic and interesting places. I am even considering adding Space Shuttle to the list. They say it’s easier to accomplish big hairy audacious goals (BHAGs) through sharing your experiences and learnings especially with those going through similar life experiences.
I hope to keep this blog interesting, fun and most of all AUTHENTIC! I hope to motivate, support and inspire others ready to take their life experiences to a whole new level. It would be great to hear your views so please leave a comment so that I know you’ve stopped by.
